In order to better support the Big Data & Analytics team, our client is looking to recruit a Data Scientist to enable its clients to leverage large volumes of data from internal and external sources to answer business needs, explore and examine data to find hidden patterns, and present a clear story to the key stakeholders.

Position overview

Your role will be as data scientist (senior consultant), based within the fast-growing Data & Analytics practice.

At the core, we are looking to hire a data scientist who has both a deep understanding of the business issues faced by clients as well as expertise in the analytical techniques that will be used to address them.


The position will report to a Manager, will support the coordination of a team of 3 juniors, and will be based in Milan.


Primary Responsibilities and Objectives:

  • Use machine learning, data mining and statistical techniques to create new, scalable solutions for business problems
  • Analyze and extract relevant information from business data to help automate and optimize key processes
  • Design, develop and evaluate highly innovative models for predictive learning
  • Establish scalable, efficient, automated processes for large scale data analyses, model development, model validation and model implementation
  • Research and implement novel machine learning and statistical approaches


Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • A PhD or a master’s degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Physics, Mathematical Engineering, Mathematics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Economics etc.
  • A minimum of 2-5 years of practical predictive analytics execution experience
  • 2-4 years of experience in advanced statistics software (e.g. R, Python, SAS, SPSS). Practical experience in R and/or Python is a plus.
  • 2-4 years of experience in using advanced modelling techniques such as statistical modelling methods, time series, text mining and optimization to solve business problems
  • Knowledge of machine learning and data mining techniques
  • Experience with Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Cloudera, NoSQL, Cassandra, Pig etc.
  • Software development skills in one or more high level languages (C#/C/C++/Java/F#), one or more scripting languages (Python/Perl/Shell) is a plus
  • Experience with AWS or Azure is a plus
  • Experience of using data querying tools such as SQL and visualization tools such as Tableau, Qlikview is a plus

Professional Skills:

  • 2-4 years of consulting experience with evidence of significant client impact and value creation would be preferred
  • An issue-based approach to problem solving
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to structure communications to non-technical audiences
